A 180 Grind is a trick on the rail that involves a 180-degree turn at the beginning and at the end of the grind. This will help you to fine-tune your movement in the air and will teach you about the importance of balance, timing and approach. Make sure you are already comfortable with Ollies and making turns before trying this trick. Follow the steps below and use the animation at the right as your guide.
STEP 1: Look for a good place to grind. Since you will be turning 180 degrees at the start of the trick, find a rail that is not too high for you.
STEP 2: As with all other tricks done on rails, be careful when it comes to approach and timing. Crouch slightly as you get near the rail and be ready to turn.
STEP 3: Turn 180 degrees. Make sure that your board will land completely on the rail's surface.
STEP 4: Simply grind like you would if you are just on snow. Keep your board parallel to the rail. Maintain your balance and just go with the grind.
STEP 5: To get off, make a 180-degree turn as you reach the end of the rail.
STEP 6: Land with both feet and then ride away.
Making spins on rails can give you a tough time. Keep on practicing to help you get the right timing when you turn on and off the rail.
